The parents of two Benghazi victims filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hillary Clinton
Patricia Smith and Charles Woods have filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the federal district court in Washington D.C. against former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
In their complaint, Smith and Woods allege that Clinton’s “recklessness” in handling her emails led to their sons, Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods’ deaths.
Patricia Smith and Charles Woods are quoted in the complaint as saying, “From the illegal use of Defendant Clinton’s private email server, it was reasonably foreseeable that Islamic terrorists would premeditatedly kill Plaintiff’s sons.”
Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods were killed, along with U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and Glen Doherty, on September 11, 2012, in Benghazi, Libya, after the U.S. consulate was attacked by terrorist.
The Obama Administration initially reported that the attack was a result of an anti-American video that was posted on YouTube. The administration based its initial report on previous acts of violence in the region.
After a further investigation, the administration retracted its initial claim and stated that the Benghazi attack was caused by terrorist.
Patricia Smith and Charles Woods, who are also suing Clinton for defamation and negligence, argue that the former secretary of state and the president knew the Benghazi attack was caused by terrorist and that the administration used the YouTube video in order to cove-up that fact.
As evidence, Smith and Woods point to Hillary Clinton’s email communication with her daughter Chelsea Clinton.
In the email, the former secretary of state told her daughter that the attack was caused by terrorist.
Smith and Woods told the court that Hillary Clinton did not disclose the cause of the attack because she was trying to secure she and President Obama’s place in the White House.
Smith and Woods are quoted in the complaint as saying, “Immediately after the attack, Defendant Clinton, in an effort to save the re-election chances of President Barack Obama, and in turn, her own chances at the 2016 Presidency, lied to Plaintiffs and the public at large that the Benghazi Attacks were caused by Islamic reaction over an anti-Muslim YouTube video that had been posted on the internet.”
There have been eight congressional investigations into Clinton’s actions during the Benghazi attacks.
All of the investigations cleared the former secretary of state of any wrongdoing. However, questions remain about Clinton’s use of a private email server to conduct official State Department business.
The State Department’s Inspector General (IG) Office investigated Clinton and her use of a private email server.
The IG concluded that Clinton violated the law when she stored the State Department documents on her private email server and not on the State Department’s system.
FBI Director James Comey, however, decided not to recommend charges against Clinton. And U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch decided not to charge the former secretary of state with a crime.
Due to the different conclusions the IG’s office and the Department of Justice (DOJ) reached, Clinton continues to receive questions about her email use during her tenure as the secretary of state.
The one question she is often asked is whether she has been honest about how she handled classified information that was stored on her server.
Clinton has said that she’s been honest and that FBI Director James Comey has said that her responses were “truthful.”
Comey, on the other hand, has not described Clinton’s responses as “truthful.” He has stated that Clinton failed to properly handle classified information.
During the press conference announcing that there would be no charges filed against Clinton, Comey told reporters “there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive highly classified information.”
Comey repeated this claim when questioned by the House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy.
Comey told Gowdy that classified information was on Clinton’s server and that Clinton did not tell the truth about her knowledge concerning the handling of the classified information.
During an event with the National Association of Black and Hispanic Journalist (NABJ/NAHJ), Clinton was asked about her response.
She told reporters that she “may have short-circuited” her answers and that in the future she will be clearer in how she responds.
Clinton’s response resulted in the Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump firing off a tweet in which he said that Clinton’s “SHORT CIRCUITS” is evidence that she is not prepared to be the next president of the United States.
Attorney Larry Klayman is representing Patricia Smith and Charles Woods in their wrongful death lawsuit against Hillary Clinton.
Klayman is the founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch USA. He endorsed Donald Trump for president less than a week before filing the wrongful death lawsuit.
Klayman has also filed several lawsuits alleging that President Obama is not a U.S. citizen.
The parents, Jan Stevens and Barbara Doherty, of the other two Benghazi victims (U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and Glen Doherty) have not filed any lawsuits against Hillary Clinton or any former or current members of the Obama Administration.
